Visa, Passports, and Travel Documents for African Safaris
Visas
Many visas for countries in East Africa and Southern Africa can be obtained at the border upon arrival. However, some visas are available online, and it is crucial to check the visa requirements for every country you’re visiting, as visa formalities can change at short notice.
Passports
For all African countries, your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the date of your planned departure. Additionally, ensure that your passport has at least two blank pages for each international border crossing in your itinerary.
Obtaining Visas
For New Zealand passport holders, most visas for East and Southern African countries can be obtained on arrival for a fee of US$30 to US$50 per person, paid in US dollars. Some countries, such as Kenya and Uganda, offer the option to purchase visas online before you travel. We recommend obtaining your visa in advance if possible, as it can save you time on arrival.
If you are booking a safari with African Safaris Ltd, we will provide advice on the required visas and guide you through the application process.
Traveling with Children Under 18 to Botswana & Zimbabwe
For entry into or departure from Botswana and Zimbabwe, all children under 18 years old must travel with both their passport and an original full birth certificate (which includes the names of both parents). Ensure that all names on travel documents match exactly to avoid complications at the border.
