Namibia

Land of Endless Horizons

Namibia

Gaining independence in 1990, Namibia is one of the world’s youngest nations, yet it exudes an ageless charm that is utterly captivating. Namibia is a land of grand, sweeping landscapes and home to diverse tribes such as the Himba and San (Bushman). The country derives its name from the vast Namib Desert, where towering sand dunes meet the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

Despite being southern Africa’s driest nation, Namibia is celebrated as one of the region’s premier wildlife destinations. Along the desolate shoreline of Skeleton Coast National Park, desert-adapted elephants, giraffes, oryx (gemsbok), and kudu roam, pursued by lions, jackals, and hyenas. Further south, Cape Cross boasts one of the world’s largest colonies of Cape fur seals.

Etosha National Park, vast enough to be visible from space, is a sanctuary for elephants, black rhinos, big cats, and countless herbivores, all drawn to the salt licks and freshwater of its enormous salt pan. Meanwhile, Sossusvlei, with its iconic Dune 45, offers sunsets that set the sky ablaze above the red sands.

Beyond the deserts, Namibia’s natural wonders continue with Fish River Canyon, Africa’s largest, offering breathtaking views. The Bavarian-inspired towns of Lüderitz and Swakopmund provide a unique cultural experience, while the ghost town of Kolmanskop, perched on the edge of the restricted Sperrgebiet diamond mining area, invites exploration into the country’s fascinating history.

With Adventure Safari Network, discover Namibia’s timeless beauty, abundant wildlife, and rich cultural heritage in a journey unlike any other.

Best time to visit Namibia

Namibia is about scenery, beautiful remoteness, and stunning lodging in some of the world's most remote locations. Namibia becomes uncomfortably hot in October, and game viewing is severely hampered by the brief but harsh rainy season that lasts from December to March. The ideal time to see wildlife is in the winter, from June through September.
