Home of the African Walking Safari

Zambia

Zambia, Africa’s quiet success story, boasts some of the highest concentrations of game species in southern Africa. Unlike its more famous neighbors, Zambia remains blissfully uncrowded, offering a truly immersive safari experience.

A Zambia safari to the unfenced South Luangwa National Park is among the region’s top destinations. Here, you can explore grasslands that stretch around lagoons and mopane woodlands on foot, searching for elephants, black rhinos, and lions on a walking safari. Even more secluded, North Luangwa National Park offers a similar abundance of wildlife, with around 400 bird species and 60 iconic mammals, including crocodiles and large pods of hippos commonly found in the river that lends its name to both parks.

At over 22,000 km², Kafue National Park is larger than South Africa’s Kruger National Park and even bigger than some countries. As Zambia’s largest protected area, Kafue is renowned for its antelope species, including Roan, Red lechwe, and Puku, which support a healthy population of lions and hyenas. Kafue is also one of the premier locations to observe African Wild Dogs in their natural habitat.

Opposite Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools National Park, Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park stretches across the floodplain of Africa’s fourth-longest river. The Lower Zambezi is teeming with wildlife, including healthy populations of elephants, lions, and leopards. In Zambia’s southwest corner lies one of the continent’s greatest natural wonders, the mighty Victoria Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The ultimate Zambia safari experience combines the Lower Zambezi National Park, South Luangwa National Park, Kafue National Park, and Victoria Falls, offering an unparalleled journey through some of Africa’s most magnificent landscapes.

A FEW OF OUR FAVOURITE ZAMBIAN SAFARIS ...

We have a wide range of Zambian safaris.  The safaris below are intended to give you inspiration of what is possible for your safari holiday. Zambia is a landlocked country endowed with abundant animals, breathtaking natural beauty, massive water bodies, and vast open landscapes. This is the area of the renowned African walking safari and, as one of the few real wildernesses, it is undoubtedly southern Africa’s best kept secret. Zambia’s game parks, home to the famed Victoria Falls and Livingstone, are comparatively unexplored wonders for those wanting a more off-the-beaten path Zambia safari.

We have a wide range of Zambian safaris that are not featured on our website, and so it best to contact us to discuss your safari options.

Best time to visit Zambia

The best time to visit Zambia is mainly determined by its two most popular activities: walking safaris (with amazing game viewing) and visiting Victoria Falls. Unless you are a regular visitor to Africa, we reccommend avoiding travel between December and April, when it is hot and wet, because many lodges, camps and roads are closed. Shoulder season provides better affordability, but the quality of game viewing may suffer as the bush remains dense. If you go during peak season, you'll be right in the middle of the action for walking safaris and tremendous wildlife, but keep in mind that everything is more expensive.
