Best Time to Visit East Africa

An East African safari is ideal during the dry season from December to February, when wildlife congregates around water sources, making it perfect for game viewing in Tanzania’s Serengeti and Kenya’s Masai Mara. This is also a prime time for gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda, with drier weather making the trails more accessible.

The long rainy season from March to May transforms the landscape into lush greenery, offering incredible birdwatching opportunities and fewer crowds. Many lodges also provide discounted rates during this period.

From June to October, the dry season returns, making it the peak safari period. This is the best time to witness the Great Migration in the Serengeti and Masai Mara and enjoy exceptional wildlife viewing as animals gather near waterholes.

In November, the short rainy season brings vibrant green landscapes and a quieter safari experience with fewer tourists. This is an excellent time for photography, capturing the stunning beauty of East Africa.
