Jewel of the Kalahari

Botswana

Botswana is a land where superlatives are the norm, offering an extraordinary tapestry of landscapes that captivate the imagination. From the surreal salt flats of Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans National Parks to the sweeping sands of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, and the serene waters of the Okavango Delta—the world’s largest inland delta—this country is a haven for those seeking nature’s finest.

The Adventure Safari Network is your gateway to Botswana’s unparalleled wildlife experiences, home to some of the densest concentrations of wildlife on the African continent, including the famed Big Five. Botswana’s rich history as Africa’s oldest continuous democracy is etched into the ancient cave paintings of the Tsodilo Hills, dating back 4,500 years.

Among Botswana’s many must-see destinations, the Okavango Delta stands out as the crown jewel. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a pristine oasis, where you can glide silently through lush waterways in a traditional mokoro canoe. Originally crafted from large straight trees like ebony and kigelia, mokoros are now more commonly made from fiberglass to preserve the environment. Beyond the Delta, you can immerse yourself in the culture and wisdom of Botswana’s indigenous San people on a bushwalk through the Makgadikgadi and Kalahari regions.

With nearly three-quarters of Botswana blanketed by the sands of the Kalahari Desert, the country’s diverse and abundant wildlife continues to astonish visitors. In the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, you might encounter the majestic black-maned lions, while the banks of the Chobe River come alive with up to 80,000 elephants. During the wet season migration, vast herds of zebra and wildebeest gather among the towering baobabs of Nxai Pan National Park and the expansive salt flats of Makgadikgadi.

For those seeking the ultimate safari experience, The Adventure Safari Network offers curated journeys through Botswana’s most iconic regions, including the Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve, Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, and Chobe National Park. Explore the wild heart of Africa with us and discover the wonders that make Botswana truly extraordinary.

Best time to visit Botswana

Botswana’s climate is semi-arid, characterized by hot and dry conditions for most of the year. However, there is a rainy season that occurs from November to March. Rainfall during this period is often erratic, unpredictable, and varies significantly from one region to another. It’s common for a heavy downpour to drench one area, while just 10 or 15 kilometers away, there may be no rain at all. Showers are frequently followed by intense sunshine, which means much of the rainfall doesn’t penetrate the ground but instead evaporates or is lost to transpiration.
