Photographic Safari to India – incl. Pushkar

Day 1: Arrive in Dehli

Arrive Delhi by an International flight and transfer to the hotel.

Day 2: Dehli

Morning, drive to old Delhi. Visit Jama Masjid, walk through the colorful bazaars, old havelis (mansion) and the spice market. Later drive past India gate (war memorial), President house and Parliament house. Continue to Mehrauli, is probably the oldest continuously inhabited area of the city and contains the architectural legacy of many centuries including Qutab Minar. Evening, visit Dilli Haat a traditional village bazaar setup offering excellent photographic opportunity.

Day 3: Delhi/Varanasi

Morning fly to Varanasi the oldest living city in the world. On arrival, check in for your stay. Afternoon, we will be guided on a walk to the old part of the city Bengali Tola. An excellent opportunity for you to get a glimpse of the symbiotic life of people. The tour will continue to the historic ritual bathing ghat called Dashaswamedh. Evening, watch the illuminated aarti ceremony that is performed at Dasahwamedh Ghat.

Day 4: Varanasi

Discover India’s spirituality by taking an unforgettable sunrise boat ride on the Ganges, floating past ghats as worshippers begin to appear on the banks. Later walk through an inextricable maze of small streets and alleyways to Vishwanathji Ki Gali — the ancient alley which is home to some beautiful temples. Morning excursion to Sarnath, the place Buddha chose to deliver his first sermon. Afternoon at leisure to discover the city on own.

Day 5: Varanasi/Delhi/Agra

Morning fly to Delhi and then drive to Agra. An excellent drive through the newly built expressway. On arrival, check in for your stay.

Day 6: Agra

Visit Taj Mahal at dawn. An excellent photographic opportunity as you will see this extraordinary monument changes various hues from pink to light yellow to bright white. Return to hotel for breakfast. Midmorning visit the 18th century Roman Catholic Cemetery – re-living a crosscultural mix that has never made it into history books and traveler’s itineraries. Later walk through the Civil lines area and explore the old part of Agra and its hidden alleys. Afternoon visit Agra fort. Later walk through the rustic Kachhpura and experience an authentic side of rural India that you have probably never seen before, including a street play presented by the town’s youth. Evening visit Mehtab Bagh and enjoy a stunning view of the Taj Mahal at sunset.

Day 7: Agra/ Jaipur

Morning drive to Jaipur enroute visiting the step wells at Abhaneri. Continue drive to Jaipur enroute making photo stops. On arrival, check in for your stay. Evening visit the ancient Hindu Birla temple for Aarti(Prayer) ceremony. Later board the open Jeeps and drive past the main centers of Jaipur to enjoy the lighted monuments and markets in night.

Day 8: Jaipur

Morning visit Amer Fort with Elephant ride upto the fort. Next visit the Observatory and City Palace. Afternoon walk in the old market mainly in the Badi Chaupad and Johari Bazaar area to see the local craftsman at work. End the walk with a visit to private mansion of a Jaipur local. The mansion is beautifully decorated with gold painting, rich tapestries, carpets and rare artefacts.

Day 9: Jaipur/Pushkar

Morning drive to Pushkar. Pushkar fair is held on the Kartik Purnima day falling in the month of October or November and continues for around five days. During the Pushkar fair people from different villages gather at Pushkar along with their camels and cattle. Livestock owners meet at Pushkar to trade these important animal species. The fair at Pushkar involves not only livestock trading but also pilgrimage and festivities. Afternoon proceed for Pushkar tour and visit the Pushkar fair ground.

Day 10: Pushkar

Full day free to explore & experience the Pushkar Fair

Day 11: Pushkar / Jaipur/ Delhi

Morning drive for Jaipur and upon arrival connect flight to Delhi. Upon arrival check in for your stay

Day 12: Delhi/Nagpur/Kanha

Early morning fly to Nagpur and then drive to Kanha. Upon arrival, checkin for your stay. Meet with the naturalist and proceed on a game drive to the park. While on safari, the naturalist and the drivers will provide you ample photographic opportunities. Return at 6pm from safari.

Days 13 and 14: Kanha

Morning & afternoon game drive to the park. During the day, you can visit the nearby village and see the countryside, walk in the periphery of the jungle or visit the local market.

Day 15: Kanha/Nagpur/Mumbai

Morning drive to Nagpur and then fly to Mumbai. Arrive Mumbai and transfer to the hotel. On arrival, check in for your stay.

Day 16: Mumbai

Visit Mumbai at dawn. Later visit the tiffin boys of Mumbai the Dabbawallas followed by a visit to Mumbai’s open air laundermart the Dhobi Ghat. Later, drive past the colonial buildings like High Court, Sessions Court, University and Museum Buildings, Tower of Silence and the beautiful Jain temple photo stops will be made. End the day with a short walk in the Fort area and visiting St. Thomas Cathedral the first Anglican Church in Mumbai with a colonial-era architecture.

Day 17: Mumbai

Morning visit the Jewish sites. This includes a walk into the beautiful and architecturally stunning synagogues, clamourous Sassoon Docks, quaint Sassoon Library and the magnificent Bhau Daji Lad Museum. Afternoon, proceed for a Bollywood experience. You will be first taken to a live set (subject to schedule), where you will be privy to a shoot (Film, Serial or Ad film). Evening, you will be taken to Girgaon Chowpatty, Mohammad Ali Road and Colaba, to understand the street food culture of Mumbai, and how it has impacted the culture of the city an excellent photographic opportunity. You could sample a few dishes if you like.

Day 18: Mumbai/Cochin

Morning fly to Cochin. Afternoon, explore the city with a walk through the bustling harbor area and quaint backstreets to discover its rich and multifaceted past. Visit St Francis Church, Jewish Synagogue and Mattancherry Palace. Evening, visit a local theatre to experience Kathakali performance.

Day 19: Cochin/Allepey/Cochin

Begin the day early today with a morning excursion to a local beach, timing your arrival as the local fishing boats pull in with their catch for the day. There is a lovely auction on the beach with retailers and exporters bidding for the best catch of the day. Continue to a Christian host’s farm house to sample home -made breakfast. Later, armed with a bicycle spend a somnolent morning exploring the surrounding village. For the less adventurous and not keen on cycling, we would alternate arrangements on local Tuk Tuk. After the adrenaline filled morning, board the Kettuvallam a traditional houseboat and spend several hours drifting through the backwaters of Kerala enjoying lunch onboard. Return to Kochi in the evening.

Day 20: Depart Kochi

Transfer to airport to board flight for onward destination.
